Hungary's ruling party wants to stay in European People's Party despite criticism

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's ruling Fidesz party wants to remain in the centre-right European People's Party (EPP), it said on Tuesday, despite growing pressure within the European Parliament's biggest grouping to suspend or expel it.

Orban has long been at loggerheads with Brussels over his hardline stance on immigration and other issues and their feud is escalating ahead of European Parliament elections in May.

The principle behind the proposed law is that all internet traffic should be treated equally regardless of its source.

MEPs feared that unless new rules were put in place, internet providers might threaten to slow down traffic from data intensive services - such as video-on-demand and cloud storage - unless the firms behind them paid a fee.

Google may face $6bn EU anti-trust fin

GOOOOHOOOOGLE Google’s anti-trust row with the European commission could turn into a case bigger than the one that cost Microsoft more than €2.2bn (£1.7bn), the outgoing competition commissioner warned on Tuesday.

In a dramatic change of position, Joaquín Almunia, the EC’s competition commissioner, told the European parliament that unless Google altered its offer to settle complaints, it could face a “statement of objections”, the formal path towards a fine that could equate to 10% of the company’s global revenue, or about $6bn (£3.7bn).
